What is Yoga Therapy?

An Āyurvedic yoga therapist is trained in the traditional approach to health and well-being that has been practiced in India for thousands of years.

Today, tools from Yoga are being integrated into physical therapy and mental health programs. There is a difference between a yoga studio where the teacher may have just a 200-hour certification and a yoga therapist who is both a yoga teacher with at least an additional 800-hours of therapeutic training. A yoga therapist is more sensitive to contraindications and has resources for specific conditions.

Courses

We will be presenting four advanced programs that require either a 200-hour YA certified teacher training, an Āyurvedic Health Counselor (ACH) or above background or other similar proficiency in the traditional Sanskrit sciences. Our entry program is a 200-hour Samkhya course that lays the foundations for a Yogic phenomenology. Then we offer a 300-hour Yoga Psychology program, a 100-hour Trauma Sensitive Yoga Therapy program, and also a program for those with a Yoga and Āyurveda background to integrate their practice to become Āyurvedic Yoga Therapists (AYT-NAMA).

Our Vision

College of Clinical Yoga Therapy is an Āyurvedic based mental health education. It is designed for Yoga Therapists, Āyurvedic and Jyotiṣa practitioners to gain a traditional understanding of a healthy mind and how to cultivate this balance. Programs are aimed to cultivate awareness and personal development which leads to better observation skills and practice.

Health

A Mind-Body Science

Āyurveda and Yoga approach health as a mind-body science. The Charaka Saṁhitā says “the body follows the mind and the mind follows the body.”  Practitioners learn to read the body as an aspect of mind and the mind as an aspect of the body. From this holism we can cultivate balance.”
