In this video, “Isabelle Ratié evokes the debate about whether one can reliably infer the existence of anything independent of consciousness. She focuses on two Indian schools that answer in the negative: the Vijñānavāda of Dharmakīrti and the Pratyabhijñā of Utpaladeva. While these schools agree that awareness is primary and constitutive of all experience, their divergent portrayals of its activity reflect their respective metaphysical commitments (e.g. illusionism vs realism, momentariness vs constancy, atheism vs theism, non-self vs self).”
